Carol Hoffman-Guzman
Founding Director

Carol has a 20+ year history working with nonprofit, faith-based and arts organizations. She was a visual artist in Denver, where she exhibited at galleries and museums, developed a regional arts newspaper, and helped curate local visual arts shows.
   Education: academic studies in visual arts, art history & indigenous art, with BA in anthropology at Cornell University (Ithaca), Columbia University (NYC), Crafts Students League (NYC), and South Florida Arts Center (Miami). Media of choice: fiber, assemblage, painting, photography, and recyclables. Judging and curating of art exhibits: Rocky Mountain region and South Florida. Art work exhibited at:  Juried shows at Denver Art Museum & other western sites; permanent collection at Museum of International Folk Art (Santa Fe) and private collections. Arts Administration: Founding Director of Craft Range Magazine (a visual arts tabloid in Colorado) and Arts at St. Johns (Miami Beach).  
    Carol was previously the Director of the Kellogg Family Foundation Project at M-DC and the Executive Director of Miami Urban Ministries.
   Carol also has Masters in Theology, and a PhD in Sociology (race & ethnicity), all of which help inform the cross-cultural and diversity vision of programming at the ASJ.

David Kingery
Technical/Stage Manager, Artistic Director, Singer and Vocal Coach

David is the founder and first artistic director of the South Beach Gay Men’s Chorus. He has directed other local productions, including “A Taste of Broadway”, “This Moment”, “Quentin and I” (David Leddick Cabaret), and “Under the Influence” (a Cabaret), plus “And then they Buried God” in Los Angeles, CA. He has performed at Actors’ Playhouse, Shores Performing Arts Theater, Colony Theater, Public Theater of Ft. Lauderdale, Hollywood Playhouse, and Tour of South Florida. He directed “A-block-and-a-half from Broadway” at the Blue Angel, NYC.

David has a BA in Music Performance (University of Miami), a BS in Communications/Video/Film from University of Miami, and training in sound engineering at The Recording Workshop, Los Angeles.

Ken Whiting
Lighting Director

I started working for Dade County at Crandon Park , January ' 77, running the amusement area there & repairing amusement rides & equipment in the snack bars & restaurants on the beaches.

I transferred to Vizcaya Museum & gardens in February '79 as maintenance mechanic, where I still work. My job is to repair, maintain, install electrical, plumbing, pumps, air conditioning, lighting, generators, sound systems, electric & lighting for events etc. Also Vizcaya has a 23-rank 3-manual Welte pipe organ with roll player, which I help maintain.

Charmille Walters
Assistant Stage Manager

Originally from Jamaica, Charmille “Charm” Walters has studied and performed several art forms including dance and music for over twenty years. A graduate of FIU
Department of Theater and Dance, she performed at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC as a part of the National College Dance Festival. Her knowledge base and experience includes educator, administrator, production staff, choreographer and performer.

Based in Miami, Florida since 1997, she is the proud recipient of the 2003 Miami-Dade De partment of Cultural Affairs’ Artist Access Grant and has worked with several local artists and art organizations. She is a task force member of the Miami Emerging Arts Leaders and on the steering committee for The Field/Miami. Her condensed studies with renowned scholar the Honorable Rex Nettleford (Jamaica) and innovative artists such as Sean Curran (NY), Joe Goode (CA), and Joao Saldanha (Brazil), have greatly influenced her choreographic work.

Ms. Walters’ arts administrative experience includes management of special projects, office, grants and budget. Her production credits include local crew stage technician for the MTV Video Music Award, Latin Billboard, Latin Grammy, Source Awards, Disney on Ice, Simon & Garfunkel, Madonna, Bette Midler, Yani, Rolling Stones, Green Day, Neil Diamond, U2 among others.
